Malaysia Visa for Bangladeshi Citizens

Travelling to Malaysia on a Bangladeshi passport involves several separate questions: whether a visa is required, whether the eVisa route can be used, whether a pass is needed as well, and whether the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card applies. This guide takes them one purpose at a time.

Malaysia Travel for Bangladeshi Citizens

Bangladeshi passport holders travel to Malaysia for many reasons: holidays, family visits, business meetings, medical treatment, work, study and joining relatives who live there. No single route fits all of them, and the right one depends on why you are going.

Five questions are easy to confuse, and this guide keeps them apart:

  • a visa requirement: whether your passport needs an entry visa for your purpose;
  • eVisa eligibility: whether the electronic application route can be used;
  • an immigration pass: separate permission, such as an Employment Pass, Student Pass or Dependent Pass, to stay for work, study or family reasons;
  • prior approval: an employer, institution or sponsor often has to act first; and
  • the Digital Arrival Card: a separate arrival declaration, where it applies.

    Further Check Needed

Requirements depend on your passport type.

    Depends on your circumstances

  • Transit

    Further Check Needed

A transit visa is needed if you leave the airport.

Depends on whether you leave the airport

“Required” means the checker records an entry visa as required for that purpose. It does not mean you will be approved, and for work, study and family stays it does not replace the separate pass approvals described below.

Malaysia Tourist eVisa for Bangladeshi Citizens

For tourism and family visits, the checker records a tourist visa as required for Bangladeshi passports, and it lists Bangladesh among the nationalities that can use the eVisa route for social visits.

Before you apply, settle three things:

  • your purpose, because a holiday, a family visit and a business trip are different categories;
  • the entry type, single or multiple, which the checker asks for and which changes the document list; and
  • the country you will apply from, which can add documents, particularly for Bangladeshi citizens who live abroad.

The document checker turns your answers into a reference list. The Malaysia eVisa page explains the categories in more detail.

Business and Medical Visits

Business and medical travel follow the same questions as tourism but add papers that show why you are going.

Business visits

For business meetings, conferences and similar short visits, the checker records a business visa as required and uses the same eVisa route as tourism. Its document list adds papers from your company and from the Malaysian company you are visiting.

Professional assignments are different from business meetings. For professional visits the checker records both a visa and a Professional Visit Pass as required, so check which one describes your trip.

Core documents listed

  • Passport Bio Data Page
  • Face Photograph
  • One Month Bank Statement
  • Company Registration Certificate
  • Business Invitation Letter from Malaysian Company
  • Employment Letter or Business Card
  • Purpose of Business Visit Documentation

Medical visits

For medical treatment, the checker records a medical visa as required. It shows an entry visa with prior approval, so the hospital’s paperwork is part of the picture from the start.

Its document list adds paperwork from both sides of the journey: a letter from the Malaysian hospital, and reports and recommendations from your doctor at home.

Core documents listed

  • Passport Bio Data Page
  • Face Photograph
  • One Month Bank Statement
  • Letter from Malaysian Hospital Confirming Appointment
  • Medical Report from Home Country Doctor
  • Doctor's Recommendation Letter
  • Treatment Plan or Medical Procedure Details
  • Hospital Registration or Booking Confirmation

Employment: Entry and Approvals

An Employment Pass is permission connected to approved employment. It is not an entry visa, and an eVisa application on its own does not grant one.

For Bangladeshi passports, the checker records both a visa and a work pass, such as an Employment Pass, as required, and shows the entry visa as needing prior approval. The employer is normally involved in the approval, which is why the paperwork includes employer and contract documents.

Study: Entry and Approvals

A Student Pass is an approval connected to your studies. An eVisa application alone does not grant it.

For Bangladeshi passports, the checker records both a visa and a Student Pass as required. The paperwork it lists reflects that sequence: acceptance by the institution, the education and immigration approvals, and then the entry visa step.

Dependent Pass Considerations

A Dependent Pass links a family member’s stay to a principal pass holder, such as someone with an Employment Pass or a Student Pass. Applying for an eVisa does not by itself grant a Dependent Pass.

For Bangladeshi passports, the checker records a visa as required for dependent travel. Its record distinguishes a social visit visa from a Visa With Reference for long-term stays, so the right route depends on how long you will be in Malaysia and on the sponsor’s approvals.

Official Visit Considerations

Whether an official visit needs a visa depends on the type of passport you hold and on the travel authorization behind the trip. Ordinary, official and diplomatic passports can be treated differently.

For this reason the checker shows “Further Check Needed” for official visits, whichever nationality you choose. Confirm the position for your passport with the organisation arranging the visit and the relevant Malaysian authorities.

How the Application Process Generally Works

The details differ by category, but the sequence of a Malaysia visa application usually follows the same shape.

  1. Identify your purpose

Decide whether your trip is tourism, business, medical, official or based on a work, study or dependent pass.

  2. Check the requirement for your passport

See what the checker records for a Bangladeshi passport and for your purpose.

  3. Arrange prerequisite approvals

For work, study and dependent travel, the employer, institution or sponsor usually has to arrange the pass approval first.

  4. Prepare your documents

Use the checker for your list, and make sure names, dates and numbers match across every document.

  5. Apply through the appropriate channel

Submit the application where one is available for your category, and answer any request for further documents precisely.

  6. Prepare for travel

Carry your documents, complete the Digital Arrival Card where it applies, and expect the final decision on entry to rest with the border officer.

Application services on this website are not yet active. This sequence describes the general process and is not an instruction to apply here.

Processing Time and Travel Preparation

No single processing time applies to every Bangladeshi applicant, and this guide does not state one. The authorities decide on applications, and the time they take can vary.

  • Allow generous time

Start early, especially if a pass approval from an employer, institution or sponsor has to come first.

  • Be careful with bookings

Think about flexible or changeable bookings until the approvals you rely on have come through.

  • Check passport validity

Compare your passport’s validity with your travel dates, and confirm the rule with the Malaysian authorities.

  • Carry your paperwork

Keep your approvals and supporting documents with you when you travel, in case an officer asks for them.

Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)

The MDAC is a separate arrival declaration. It is not a visa, and holding a visa does not replace it. For a Bangladeshi passport the checker records the following.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Bangladeshi citizens need a visa to visit Malaysia?

For tourism and business visits, the checker records a visa as required for Bangladeshi passports. It also records a visa as required for medical, work, study and dependent travel, and some of those purposes need separate pass approvals or prior approval as well. The records can change, so confirm before you travel.

Can I use the eVisa with a Bangladeshi passport?

Bangladesh is on the checker’s list of nationalities that can use the eVisa route for social visits, which covers the tourist and business categories. Medical, employment, student and dependent travel use an entry visa with prior approval, and official travel depends on the type of passport.

Is the eVisa the same as an Employment, Student or Dependent Pass?

No. A pass is separate immigration permission linked to work, study or a family member’s status, and an eVisa application alone does not grant one. The pass approval usually has to be arranged by the employer, the school or university, or the sponsoring family member.

Do I need the MDAC as well as a visa?

The checker records the MDAC as required for Bangladeshi passports across the main purposes, with exceptions: it is not needed by diplomatic or official passport holders on visit purposes, and it is not needed if you already hold a Malaysian long-term pass for work, study or dependent stays. The MDAC is separate from a visa.

Which documents does the checker list for a Bangladeshi tourist?

In the standard case the checker lists the passport biodata page, a face photograph and a one-month bank statement. Other items, such as a flight ticket and hotel booking, are optional or may be requested, and further items appear only in particular situations.

I live outside Bangladesh. Does that change my documents?

It can, because where you apply from changes the list. If you apply from somewhere other than the country that issued your passport, the checker includes proof of your immigration status there. Residents of the United Arab Emirates are asked for an Emirates ID, front and back, with a No Objection Certificate as an optional or on-request extra, and permanent residents of Singapore are asked for their PR card and the re-entry permit copy.

Do Bangladeshi citizens have a different document list from other nationalities?

The checker’s document lists vary with the category and with details such as the traveller’s age, where you apply from and the entry type, rather than on a separate Bangladeshi list. What differs by nationality is whether a visa is required and which route applies.

Does an approved visa guarantee entry to Malaysia?

No. An approved visa is one step in the journey, not a promise of entry. The officer at the border makes the final decision on admission, and entry also depends on the immigration requirements that apply when you arrive.
